R&B is also known for Contemporary R&B. It is a music genre that contains elements of other musical genres which are ‘Hip-Hop’, ‘R&B, and ‘Pop’. R&B originates from the tradition Rhythm and Blues music. In todays’ society, R&B is mainly defined by a style of ‘African American’ music which has originated after the disco in the 1980s. There are some sources of urban contemporary in R&B. There has been a debate seeing that R&B has also been referred as ‘Rhythm & Bass’.

How will I relate this to my music video? : The main boy and girl in my music video will be wearing jewellery because it would tie into the stereotypical convention of an R&B music video. However, the main boy will be wearing more jewellery than the main girl because if the main girl wore too much jewellery, it would interrupt the idea about independency and it will make her less independent and more “common” which will represent women as that and I don’t want that to happen. Besides, in society, male is more dominant than female, so the main boy wearing jewellery will show that he represents men being more powerful and in control.
Red Circle: Intimacy - The red circle shows the idea about intimacy. Intimacy is also a popular feature in R&B music videos. The red circles shows the use of hands being
How will I relate this to my music video? : In my music video, I will ensure that intimacy is being portrayed to an extent. I have been looking at past A2 students music videos were the director have included too excessive amount of footage based on intimacy. Personally, I think that affected the music video on a whole. Certainly the music video based was on the theme of intimacy however the excessive amount of footage of intimacy made the whole music video very cheesy and unrealistic. In my music video will include intimacy but there will be other footages based on other themes such as independency, male dominance and etc.
Blue Circle: Voyerurism - Most R&B music videos use an attractive model for voyeurism to sell the music video. Usually, the female models are glamour models, popular celebrity or a typical model. In R&B music videos, most of their costumes are usually are in the colours of pink, red, gold or white. Pink assoicates with most of the target audience (women and young girls) since that is an coventional colour for females. Red connotes fliration and sexiness. Additionally, Gold connotes power and wealth.
How will I relate this to my music video ?: I will be using an attractive female for voyeurism so she can sell my music video. Furthermore, I will be using specific costumes in my music video that my target audience can relate to. Given that the idea about independency needs to be emerged in my music video, I will be using all three colours on my main girl for my music video.

Right Image: The flashing editing is effective because it repersents Drake's state of mind and his emotions. Moreover, the fast flash editing could symbolise Drake's heartbeat rate which conotes how scared he feels about the situation he is about to put himself in. This represents women being very seductive and dangerous and because of the power they maintain, it represents women being in control and they have the power to lead men on. Concluisvley, it represents men doing anything for the one they love and the risk they will take despite being warned.
While the diegetic sound of the man talking to Drake being played in the background, the editor uses establishing shots of Jamaica to prsent the setting.
Left image: The audience can see that 'Dead' is written on a wall or scraped metal. This denotes the poverty in Jamaica. The director may of filmed this shot to highlight the high crime rate in that area which suggests that the area is lethal, bloody and dangerous. Moreover, the red paint shows the effects of it which connoting blood being written on the wall.
Right image: The audience sees the very poor side of Jamaica which is often reffered as the 'Ghetto'. The director used an establishng shot to denote the lack of facilities in the area. This represents Jamaica (whole country) as a poor country. It is effective how the director played the diegetic sound while displaying the setting because the setting links with narration when the old man mentions 'this is Jamaica'.
(Music begins to play)
Left Image:The director then uses a flashblack to entertain the audience of Drake's scenario. Firstly, we see Drake in a dancehall club in Jamaica. The director uses a mid-shot of Drake while he spots the lady who is dancing with Movado (gangster). The close-up shot is effecctive because it symbolises that he is in between or in the middle of getting towards her and that he is working his way up to her. The lady is dancing seductivley with Movado which suggests that she is with him.
Right Image: The connotation in the right frame suggest that the lady is the gangster's property. From this point, the audience are aware of the beginning of the story. However, this long shot shows people dancing which denotes that the setting is in a club.

Left Image: Drake and the lady gaze into each other's eyes. This is presented through a close-up shot. This is shot is effective because it shows their connectivity between the two characters in the frame. Moreover, this shot connotes Drake being lock in a metaphoric maze through this gaze.
Right Image: The gang member observes the situation and realises what is going and soon he will be making his move in the video. In this shot there are yellow, red and green lighting. The director has probably use a spotlight prop wit green , red and yellow filters. These colours links to the country since the country is known for these colours.
In both of these images, we see the gang member explaining the situation to the gangster (gully god). The director has used red lighting in the background. This is effective because it connotes ideas about danger and death which foreshadows the dooming ending of the music video. In the right image the director has used a close up shot of the gangster's face which shows that the gangster's face is saturatued with scars. This suggests that he is a dangerous man and has been in dangerous situations before hand.
Left Image and Middle image: Right image Drake is walking down the road and while he walks down the road again he gets flashback images of his fling. The middle image is another flashback of Drake reminiscing the time he had with her on the beach. Shown through a extreme long shot, is the couple having their fling. In the Mis En Scene, we see the beach and clouds. This is effective because it highlights the couple being alone and free. This suggests that their fling was exciting. Moreover, the river connotes things carrying on; realting to the music video this footage could be evidence of their fling carrying on.
Right Image: shows the girl waiting for the 'gully crew' to turn up to kidnap Drake but while Drake is knocking for her, she awaits for the gang members to come. The set - up begins from here.
Overall these three images above show Drake being set up by his fling and now she is going to shoot him. The colour of the villian's costume (Movado and the lady) are black. This connotes the power they have yet, on the other hand, black assoicates with idea about death. Since there are two villians wearing black, it multiplies the idea that Drake is going to die for the reason that the ratio is 2:1 which shows that he is doomed.

The ending of this video has a non diegetic sound of gunshots being played three times. The implication of this footage suggests that Drake has been shot three times by his 'Love'. This footage is effective because the colour of the typography is red. This connotes ideas about a bloody situation being taken place.

Both images: In this screenshot, Rihanna looks free. The medium long shot shows how free Rihanna is. There is non-diegetic sound of the wind being played in the background. The use of the wind is effective because it connotes how free she is and wind is usually free. The costume she is wearing is free too because it is flare. There is also a close up shot of Rihanna’s Feet. This denotes that she is running around in her own world and goes to show that she is the only girl in the world.
