The Effect

This frame shows the ‘Threshold’ effect being used with slow motion on a close up shot of Rick stepping on Pixie’s foot. This is effective because it creates a sense of eeriness. Furthermore, the close-up shot is effective because the audience are aware of how much pain Pixie is in.

Close up Shots
This close up shot of Pixie is effective because the audience are able to be to see how much pain Pixie is in. Furthermore, we are unable to see Pixie's face so this suggests that she was in so much pain. We used a female as the protagonist and we got this idea from the film Psycho because an attractive victimised female attracts the audience more since it is a stereotype of a thriller that attracts audiences. Using a female was also a way of attracting the younger adults which is our intended audience. Using a young attractive female is a way of capturing the younger target audience of older teenagers and young adults.

Furthermore, We dressed Pixie in a red shirt because red connotes danger, fear and this connects with her role as a victim in the opening of our thriller film. In addition, Pixie wore a green top beneath. This is effective because green connotes good luck which is ironic because Pixie was not in good luck.

In Romeo and Juliet the director used a close up shot of the Romeo which was effective because it allows the audience to look deeper into Romeo’s face in order to experience his depression .This is effective because the audience would be drawn into his feelings and emotions. In addition, the audience are able to observe his face in more detail. Therefore, the audience want to have sympathy for him. We felt that it was good idea to use a close up shot of Rick’s face because the audience would be able to capture the psycho behaviour of Rick.

Over the Shoulder shot

This over the shoulder shot is effective because the audience are able to see Rick's point of view when he is chasing Anna. We chose the black Jacket for Rick Jackson to wear because protagonist because black connotes death and danger and it is a typically used as a symbolic code since it has basic connotations of a bad ending. We want the audience to see the evil Rick Jackson has got. Using a male dominant character is a convention of a thriller genre because it is a stereotype. The effect of the black Jacket that Rick is wearing may have on the audience is that he is a mysterious character and we want the audience to have major questions about Rick being mysterious. This will attract the audience because we want the audience to have thoughts such as why is he chasing her? Has he got the potential to kill her? Is he going to kidnap her?

Point of view shot

This is a mid point of view shot. We decided to use this shot because a point of view shot and this is effective because it gets the audience more involved into the thriller opening (hoping to put them at the edge of their seats) and this allows them to be in a role of the character but what creates more tension is who is this character?
